I love flowers and feel joyful being with them. I’ve grown flowers for years, but my present floral journey began in May, 2020, when my mom passed away. She was in hospice care for two months, so we weren’t able to be with her when she passed, due to Covid. I think she preferred it that way, as she never liked to call attention to herself (all the middle children say heeyyy!). She’d planned her funeral, right down to the flowers. They weren’t fancy, just red carnations and baby’s breath.
Like many, I was working from home, and needed something to do after sitting at my dining room table for hours each work day. Having just lost the person who brought me into the world, I needed something to ground me. I found comfort spending time in my garden. Being a “digger”, and someone who likes to research, I wondered if I could become a part-time florist. I didn’t really know where to start.
So…I threw some seeds in the dirt to see if I could grow flowers in my West Virginia clay. I messaged all three florists in my town, offering to work for them, if I could learn the trade. This experience changed my life! I designed slowly, talked too much, and probably lacked common flower sense, but those sweet ladies taught me so much about retail floristry. And, here I am. I’m ready to share my journey and talent with my community. Thank you for showing up and reading my story.
